Professional English and Maths Tuition in Garforth

Welcome to the Kip McGrath Education Centre in Garforth. The aim of our centre is to give your child a head start in life, helping them to achieve their goals, and boost their confidence.

Established in January 2011, we have built up a respected reputation in both English and Maths tuition and we continually achieve results at all age levels.

We do not employ ‘tutors’, only fully qualified, experienced teachers who are CRB/DBS checked. Since opening, we now employ 6 teachers with various specialisms and experience, including primary specialists (KS1 and KS2), SATs, special needs, KS3, GCSE and A-level.  We are also specialists in 11+ and entrance exams.

We also run separate sessions for adult learners from GCSE to professional qualifications (such as QTS Skills Test and Police entrance exams).

We keep up to date with all changes in education and we contribute to DfES consultation exercises.  All our teachers keep abreast of all curriculum changes to ensure we can work with your school, if required. We have good relationships with local schools.

We are always happy to answer any questions you may have about our centre, or wider educational matters.

  • CHRIS
CHRIS Owner / Teacher of English, Maths & Languages

As a graduate and teacher with over 20 years’ experience in the state and private sectors, there is nothing more rewarding to me than helping children to learn. I opened the Kip McGrath Education Centre in 2011 as education is my passion, and there is nothing better than seeing a child grow in confidence once they start to feel success. Working in an environment like Kip McGrath means I can get to know the youngsters, what makes them tick and how they learn best. I believe that anyone can make good progress and that the key to fast development is a small student to teacher ratio in a relaxed, friendly centre with professionals who care.

  • GILLIAN
GILLIAN Specialist Maths / GCSE / A’ Level Teacher

As a Maths graduate, I have been teaching Maths for over 25 years in the local area. I have taught from Years 7 to 13 and I believe that anyone can achieve in Maths with a sound grounding in the basic skills. Once the basics are there, this subject is a lot less scary!! Knowledge of number facts will be essential for the new GCSE starting in September 2015 for Year 10s. I am passionate about my subject and love to pass this onto our students as it gives me great pleasure in seeing them succeed in this very important subject – regardless of whether it is a class test, end of year exam, GCSE or A’ Level.

ANNE Specialist English / GCSE Teacher

I have been teaching for over 25 years in the Leeds area and have taught English and Languages in Secondary schools. I would describe my teaching approach as firm but fair, and I always motivate my students to achieve their potential in an interesting and supportive way. At GCSE Level, I feel it is important not only to cover the basics but also exam technique and what the examiners are looking for. I am also enjoying preparing our KS3 students for the demands of the new GCSEs starting with Year 10s in September 2015

Frequently asked questions

How long will my child need tutoring?

All children progress at a different rate. It can be difficult to determine the exact amount of time your child will need tutoring. You can discuss this in more detail with your Kip McGrath tutor. We have some basic benchmarks that we use to give estimation. The best method is consistent and quality tuition.

How do I know they are progressing? Should we reassess them regularly?

The Kip McGrath study programme is progressive. Your child will be starting at a foundational level and will work their way up to the goal set. Each week their lesson plan contains new activities that build on the knowledge they learnt in the previous week. We reassess students towards the end of the year OR when a child has potentially reached their goal.

Will my child progress in a small group?

Kip McGrath was built on one to one tuition in a small group environment. We at Kip McGrath have used this foundation to deliver our lessons. We spend one on one time with each student and then allocate independent tasks. This gives the student time to apply their new knowledge to the task set. The Kip McGrath tutor will monitor the student at all times; they can see exactly what the student is completing and assist the student immediately.

How much homework will my child receive?

Homework is an important part of the programme. It gives the child the opportunity to consolidate and practise what they have learnt during their lesson. The student should never receive homework on topics they have not covered with their tutor or tasks that are too difficult.

What parents say about us

Thank you so much for all your help and guidance you have shown.  We have all noticed a vast improvement in his English and his confidence in reading.  It just goes to show how you can help.”

For anyone thinking of using this centre, I would say definitely go for it. My 11 year old son has been attending for about a year and he has come on in leaps and bounds. He has both English and Maths tuition and it really has made a difference. His confidence in his ability has soared and he has gone from an average student in Maths to now being in the top Maths set at his school.
